    Overview

    Welcome to Toronto's student program overview. The Toronto team includes approximately 230 legal professionals, providing expertise to national and international business leaders. Our offices in First Canadian Place are located in the heart of Toronto's financial district.

    For summer 2010, we will have 16 students and for the 2010/11 articling term we will have 17 articling students.

    Advocacy

    Our advocacy practice involves civil, administrative, criminal, quasi-criminal and alternative dispute resolution matters. Our lawyers represent clients in trial and appellate courts at all levels, covering a wide variety of corporate and commercial disputes, property and liability insurance claims, employment and labour relations matters, immigrations issues, competition law matters as well as public and private arbitrations and proceedings before a broad variety of quasi-judicial and administrative bodies at both the provincial and federal levels.

    Business Law

    Offering a broad range of services, our business law group works with organizations of all sizes, helping them run smoothly, efficiently and profitably. We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver responsive, timely recommendations on issues relating to everything from individual contracts to public offerings.

    At Gowlings, we draw on the Firm's extensive experience across a number of sectors, including automotive, manufacturing, mining, high technology, oil and gas, finance and investment, venture capital, healthcare and advertising. By being in tune with the dynamics of various industries, our group provides its clients the best service possible.

    Corporate Finance

    The corporate finance group at Gowlings advises emerging and established businesses on all their financing needs, from start-up through to public offering and beyond. Our practitioners are experts in all aspects of corporate finance and securities law. They have experience working with securities administrators and regulators throughout North America and internationally.

    We provide services to regional, national, and international clients in all major industry sectors. The corporate finance and securities group advises many clients in the rapidly growing technology and biotechnology sectors, many of whom also rely on the services of our Intellectual Property practice.

    We advise investment dealers, venture capitalists, and other non-traditional investors on a variety of investment situations and on innovative techniques or products relating to distributions and underwriting across Canada and the United States.

    Environmental, Real Estate & Urban Development

    Gowlings' environmental law professionals deliver immediate, comprehensive and practical advice to assist clients in addressing their environmental challenges.

    The Toronto partners of this group are certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as specialists in environmental law. Euromoney's Experts Guides: the World's Leading Environmental Lawyers ranks three of our environmental partners as among the world's foremost authorities on the issues of environmental law.

    Our real estate practice covers all aspects of real property transactions. These include the acquisition, financing, development, leasing, syndication, and disposition of office and apartment buildings, shopping centres and multiple use projects on behalf of developers, financial institutions, pension funds and others.

    The urban development practice at Gowlings Toronto involves appearances before the Ontario Municipal Board and other provincial and municipal boards. Our lawyers also advise on a wide range of development and planning issues in connection with real estate development projects.

    Financial Services

    The Gowlings Banking and Restructuring group provides services in all areas of insolvency, bankruptcy, financial restructurings and employee buyouts. Our team offers high-level expertise across a number of sectors including the technology, real estate and financial industries.

    Our professionals represent many financial institutions including the major chartered banks, trust companies, insurance companies and other lenders by providing expertise with the enforcement and realization of security through voluntary receiverships, court appointed receiverships, bankruptcies and restructurings.

    Professionals in this group advise corporations and debtors of their rights in insolvency, carrying out corporate restructuring under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and voluntary or out-of-court restructuring.

    Intellectual Property
