The student program in Toronto is designed to maximize the professional and personal development of our students. That means we provide as much opportunity as possible for our students to participate actively, attend client meetings and make significant contributions beyond research and transaction preparation.
Managing Partner – Toronto
Gowlings provides an exciting and challenging work environment while ensuring that each professional has the support and guidance they need to get the job done. The firm goes above and beyond to tailor a work experience that suits each of their students interests, and, as a result, students are free to pursue the areas of law that they are passionate about. The best part about working at Gowlings however, are the people. It is the people who create the vibrant culture that it is: welcoming, social and embracing of an understanding that to be a well rounded lawyer, you have to be a well rounded person. Gowlings and the people who work here, emulate and embrace this philosophy.

My summer and articles at Gowlings have proved to be a tremendous experience in my professional development. Not only did it provide me with more than adequate training for life as a lawyer on Bay street, but it also provided me with the necessary support and space to grow personally - from a student to a lawyer. The files I worked on varied from deals involving small companies to deals involving millions of dollars. With the small files, I was given a lot of responsibility and left to manage the file myself. With the large files, I was able to see how major transactions were completed and how my part fit into the puzzle. Having come back as an associate, I can happily say that the attitude Gowlings lawyers have towards articling students is no different from the attitude they have towards their peers. Students are treated well and respected. Individual needs are catered for and development is a key focus for Gowlings.
