Gowlings Calgary is home to approximately 100 professionals, and is structured to facilitate prompt and efficient response to the needs and expectations of our clients. Lawyers work in teams combining their skills and abilities to address specific client requirements. Whether a project is large or small, it is staffed by a group with the appropriate mix of expertise.
Advocacy
The Calgary office has a significant and diverse advocacy practice. Members of the Advocacy group appear regularly before the Alberta courts as well as the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Our advocacy lawyers appear before provincial and federal administrative tribunals and commissions including the National Energy Board, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, the Surface Rights Board, the Human Rights Board, the Alberta Securities Commission and local and provincial planning boards and commissions, and municipal councils.
An increasing number of disputes are resolved outside the courts through arbitration and mediation procedures, which are frequently required by the terms of commercial contracts or statutes. The firm's practice in this area has expanded accordingly. Our lawyers sit as arbitrators and mediators and appear before arbitration boards, professional disciplinary tribunals and mediations.
We also provide preventative legal advice and structure dispute settlements to avoid or minimize the expense and delays involved in the litigation process.
Our litigation practice extends to all areas of civil litigation including:
corporate and commercial disputes;
local and international commercial and labour arbitrations;
property and liability insurance claims;
oil and gas regulatory hearings;
insolvency, receivership and bankruptcy;
