Each year, Gowlings Calgary hires approximately 6 - 8 students for articles commencing in the summer of the following year. Applications are accepted from second and third year law students. Interviews are granted to selected candidates after careful consideration of all applications.

In selecting articling students, our criteria include:

  • academic performance;
  • the interview, as indicative of personal qualities and abilities;
  • employment experience;
  • interests and activities;
  • references; and
  • any other relevant factors, such as fluency in other languages and academic background.

    As we seek students who wish to be associated with the firm and ultimately join its partnership, we favour candidates who display these goals. Articling should be a long-term commitment for student and firm alike. Articles are an investment in your development, with a view to an exciting future and long-term relationship with Gowlings.
